Edition Notes
Hildegaard Olibanum is sourced from wildcrafted Boswellia carterii resin harvested in Somalia by a third-generation family of tappers using low-impact incision methods that preserve the tree’s regenerative capacity. The resin is distilled in Turkey under full traceability from grove to finished oil.
Harvesting follows seasonal rhythms that honor rainfall cycles and allow structured rest periods between tapping sequences, ensuring long-term ecological continuity.
Within botanical science, boswellic acids are widely studied for their role in pathways associated with visible skin inflammation and oxidative stress. In cosmetic applications, this resin is valued for supporting the appearance of calm, balanced skin and for contributing to the maintenance of skin clarity under conditions of environmental exposure.
Beyond its physical properties, Olibanum has been used in contemplative traditions to support states of inward attention, where perception becomes less dispersed and more unified—an experience often described as restored coherence of mind and presence.
THE ANOINTING
Olibanum is the fragrance of ascent — the resin that has carried human prayer upward since before memory, whose smoke Hildegard von Bingen understood as the visible form of the soul's orientation toward the Living Light. To anoint with olibanum is to participate in that ancient gesture: not incense now but oil, not smoke but warmth, the same orientation made intimate against the skin.
Place two or three drops into the palm. Bring the hands together as one brings hands together in prayer. The resin warms slowly, deliberately, releasing its depth in layers. Hold the hands over the face and receive it. This is viriditas in its most ancient form — the Living Light that pressed through root and bark over decades, concentrated now in the warmth of your hands, offered to the face that meets the world. Anoint the face and neck without haste. Let the oil enter slowly, as prayer enters slowly. In this moment, you are the temple. The anointing is the consecration.
THE BOTANICAL FOUNDATION
Every Hildegaard Haute Botanical Facial Oil is composed entirely of botanical ingredients, with a minimum of 98% organically cultivated origin. Each carrier oil is virgin, cold-pressed, and unrefined, preserving the full lipid integrity and native biological architecture of the plant.
Rosehip seed (Rosa canina) supports epidermal renewal and contributes to a more uniform tone across the skin’s surface. Pomegranate seed (Punica granatum) reinforces lipid structure and helps maintain the skin’s underlying firmness and tensile quality. Camellia seed (Camellia oleifera) enhances hydration retention and restores suppleness to the stratum corneum. Golden jojoba (Simmondsia chinensis) closely mirrors human sebum and helps regulate surface lipid balance, supporting a stable and coherent skin environment.
Borage (Borago officinalis) strengthens barrier function and supports skin comfort under conditions of sensitivity. Prickly pear seed (Opuntia ficus-indica) enhances lipid flexibility and contributes to a smoother, more refined skin texture. Red raspberry (Rubus idaeus) supports the skin’s resilience to environmental stressors and helps maintain dermal equilibrium. Evening primrose (Oenothera biennis) and sea buckthorn (Hippophae rhamnoides) support cellular renewal processes and contribute to long-term tone uniformity and vitality.
Within this lipid foundation is a compendium of botanicals drawn from Western, Ayurvedic, and East Asian traditions of herbal preparation.
Centella asiatica supports connective tissue integrity and is traditionally used in preparations concerned with dermal repair and structural renewal. Calendula officinalis and Chamomilla recutita help reduce the sensation of reactivity and support cutaneous calm. Curcuma longa and Camellia sinensis provide antioxidant support and help protect the skin from oxidative stress linked to environmental exposure. Echinacea purpurea and Achillea millefolium are traditionally used to support purification processes and the reduction of congestion in the skin. Salvia rosmarinus and Salvia officinalis support microbial balance and help maintain a clarified skin environment. Silybum marianum supports cellular protection and contributes to the preservation of skin integrity within botanical traditions.
Together, these botanicals form a structured lipid and herbal system designed to support barrier integrity, lipid balance, epidermal renewal, and long-term cutaneous resilience—the skin understood as a living, self-organizing organ of perception and protection.
