Edition Notes
Hildegaard Rose is sourced exclusively from a dedicated Rosa damascena lineage cultivated in the high-altitude Isparta–Burdur region of Turkey for Hildegaard’s permanent collection.
This terroir is defined by mineral-dense soils, pronounced diurnal temperature shifts, and elevation-driven metabolic concentration, all of which shape the aromatic and phytochemical intensity of the rose at harvest.
Within this soil ecology, centuries of fungal networks have co-evolved with rose species, forming a living subterranean intelligence that mediates mineral exchange across the root zone—delivering phosphorus, zinc, and iron in naturally balanced ratios that sustain full botanical expression.
The roses are harvested by our fourth-generation cultivation partners at first bloom, at dawn, when volatile compounds are at peak integrity. Distillation follows immediately on site, preserving the complete aromatic field at the moment of release.
Within the Hildegaard system, Rose stands as the sovereign expression of the floral world—where aromatic, structural, and lipidic intelligences converge in a state of complete botanical coherence.
What emerges is not refinement, but wholeness held intact in contact with the skin.
THE ANOINTING
Rose is the queen of Hildegard's garden — cool, clarifying, sovereign. Von Bingen understood rose as the plant most directly addressed to the rational soul: its fragrance lifting the mind toward luminous order. To anoint with rose is to be returned to clarity of the whole person recollected in the Living Light.
Place two or three drops into the palm. Bring the hands together and be still. Feel the oil warm between them — the rose releasing what it has carried from three hundred noble petals, from the dew and the dawn light in which it was received. Hold the hands over the face and inhale. Let rose do its ancient work: restoring the countenance to its own quiet sovereignty. Then anoint — slowly, from the center outward, from the brow to the throat — as one who tends a sacred vessel. The neck, Hildegard's column of the body temple, receives the oil last.
THE BOTANICAL FOUNDATION
Every Hildegaard Haute Botanical Facial Oil is composed entirely of botanical ingredients, with a minimum of 98% organically cultivated origin. Each carrier oil is virgin, cold-pressed, and unrefined, preserving the full lipid integrity and native biological architecture of the plant.
Rosehip seed (Rosa canina) supports epidermal renewal and contributes to a more uniform tone across the skin’s surface. Pomegranate seed (Punica granatum) reinforces lipid structure and helps maintain the skin’s underlying firmness and tensile quality. Camellia seed (Camellia oleifera) enhances hydration retention and restores suppleness to the stratum corneum. Golden jojoba (Simmondsia chinensis) closely mirrors human sebum and helps regulate surface lipid balance, supporting a stable and coherent skin environment.
Borage (Borago officinalis) strengthens barrier function and supports skin comfort under conditions of sensitivity. Prickly pear seed (Opuntia ficus-indica) enhances lipid flexibility and contributes to a smoother, more refined skin texture. Red raspberry (Rubus idaeus) supports the skin’s resilience to environmental stressors and helps maintain dermal equilibrium. Evening primrose (Oenothera biennis) and sea buckthorn (Hippophae rhamnoides) support cellular renewal processes and contribute to long-term tone uniformity and vitality.
Within this lipid foundation is a compendium of botanicals drawn from Western, Ayurvedic, and East Asian traditions of herbal preparation.
Centella asiatica supports connective tissue integrity and is traditionally used in preparations concerned with dermal repair and structural renewal. Calendula officinalis and Chamomilla recutita help reduce the sensation of reactivity and support cutaneous calm. Curcuma longa and Camellia sinensis provide antioxidant support and help protect the skin from oxidative stress linked to environmental exposure. Echinacea purpurea and Achillea millefolium are traditionally used to support purification processes and the reduction of congestion in the skin. Salvia rosmarinus and Salvia officinalis support microbial balance and help maintain a clarified skin environment. Silybum marianum supports cellular protection and contributes to the preservation of skin integrity within botanical traditions.
Together, these botanicals form a structured lipid and herbal system designed to support barrier integrity, lipid balance, epidermal renewal, and long-term cutaneous resilience—the skin understood as a living, self-organizing organ of perception and protection.
